SRC Member bubble_gum Posted September 10, 2006 SRC Member Share Posted September 10, 2006 Enuff to keep zoos as in it survive? How abt letting the zoos thrive? Did u notice that when u buy zoos from LFS, the colour of the polpys is very well define, with very clear colour tone. However, if u keep it under T5, the neck grows longer and longer. The colour tone seems to "diffuse", ie as in not so clearly define anymore? The colour isnt as vibrant as u 1st brought it. This has to do with lights, especially so for those not up to standard T5s. Dont u find zoos with long neck an ugly sight? IMO its more then enuf. besides his tank is 18 inch deep. I kept a whole lotta corals under t5s alone for more then a year and they do very well. even higher light demanding corals like lps n even some clams. for shallow tanks HO t5s are enough to sustain. if zoos are loosing colour or stretching if could be alot of other factors like WATER QUALITY, WATER TEMPTERATURE, PEST such as nudibranches or maybe like what reddivils said, whey are fighting for space. do not under estimate the power of t5s on smaller tanks... muahaha here's a pic of the tank tt im talking abt( hope js dun mind)... hammy
oic, then u must have confuse between thrive and survive. no offence but if u look at those zoos, it has very long neck. which is not a good sign at all. contradictory to most belief, zoos requires very strong light. ppl in the US uses 250W/400W MH on their zoos. search RC and u have more clues... yup , i think i can diffentiate between thrieve and survive. but however my thrieve and ur thrieve seem to differ a bit. care to illustrate what does thrieve mean to u . my tank is mainly softies and LPS under 4 T5 . SRC Member Soul Posted September 10, 2006 SRC Member Share Posted September 10, 2006 Thrive means they start growing and spreading colours getting more vibrant. Corals that are just surviving or rather maintaining dont open fully nor grow much. Anyway from the looks of it u seem to be an old timer reefer so u know what works what doesnt already lah. T5s are good in my opinion if they are strong and sufficient enuf to spread the light evenly to the whole tank. They also create lesser heat to the water compared to MH.
