Hi all,

For my 90cm tank, i am looking to get 1 unit of MH + 2x 39W T5. Will be keeping mostly soft corals and placing them on the left & right side of tanks and the centre portion for some LPS.

What will be a good recommendation?

[1] 1x150W + 2x 39 T5 integrated in a single unit??

[2] Buy individually for 1x150W MH & the T5 in a separate package?

[3] Looking for opinion for the Giesemann Nova II unit. One of the reefer is selling 2nd hand. Understand that it is using low-loss magnetic ballast. How does that compare to electronic ballast.

With so much information, i am abit confused. Need help to make a better decision before committing :thanks: a million

Main Tank: 5 x 1 x 1

Return from overflow: Eheim compact+ 5000

Lighting: 2x 54W T5

Skimmer: Deltec SC 1350

Chiller: Arctica 1/10

Wave Maker: Tunze Nano Wavebox & Tunze 6055 with Photocell
Monitor 1: American Marine Pinpoint pH monitor
Monitor 2: American Marine Pinpoint Temperature monitor

Hi bro

I will only answer those questions I am capable of:

But before that. 1 x MH spread across 90cm will not give your tank an evenly distributed illumination. Unless you create a mountain in the center. If you want to use MH, you should consider having 2 instead of 1 MH. Regardless of softies or LPS... you still need to provide even lighting to the tank... also for visual aesthetic of it.

1) Intergrated unit is preferred if you do not have a proper hood to hide all the units. A partial hood can also help conceal the T5 while your MH pendant hangs down from the ceiling. But without a hood, you tank will look messy.

2) Refer to (1)

3) Geissmann is a very good and reliable brand. That's all I can contribute.

Hope this helps

Without a hood, I will suggest you go with all-in-one fixture.

I previously used a Solite 2 x 150W MH + 2 x T5. Not bad for the price range. You may want to consider that as an option. Of course there are more "branded" option such as an AquaMedic fixture. You can go to my tank thread to see my old Solite:
