Recommended Flow rate of return pump?

HI Xinga78,

i believe the guage is really to consider how many times the water cycle between the tank and sump in an hour. Example, return pump is rated 2000 litres/h, minus off the headloss, say left 1500 litres/h. if your tank is 100 litres, you will get a cycle of 15 times in an hour. I am also not too sure of this myself but remember reading it from another thread somewhere. Will need more experienced reefers to shed more light on this. ;)

btw, your hammer is doing quite well and its not 4 mouths like u mentioned. It has 6 mouths. :D:D:D

There's no fix rule as it very much depending on your tank design, sump design and capacity. Also depending on how quickly your skimmer can skim the passing water. I was told, 10 times is good. Some goes for 20 times (with super efficient equipments in the sump tank).
