I understand there is a slight different between KR and CR. But not too sure what is the real different!!! Please help!

Anyway i shall do ia simple explaination.

A calcium reactor requires a co2 cylinder and regulator. It helps to boost the calcium level in the tank. Optinum calcium level sld be between 350-400.

A kalkwassar reactor requires an auto top up device. It helps to maintain the calcium level in the water. Best combination together with the CR.

IMO, a CR is better than a KR after using both of it.

For a successful setup it will be good to run both as one balances the other in one way or another... you can do some reading at Deltec's website. I learned the difference between the two from their site when I first started (and confused)

CR helps me maintain CA and KH (PH drops due to use of CO2)

KR helps maintain my PH (brings PH back up)

kalk (calcium hydroxide) add calcium and maintain alkalinity by adding OH- ions to your system. by doing so , your PH will be raise too.

CR ( calcium carbonate) add calcium and maintain alkalinity by adding carbonate ions to your system. by doing so, the amount of buffering agent will be increase in your system. Thus, ur pH will not flatuate and be stable .

pH is defined by the concentration of OH- ( hydroxide) ions in your system, something like negative log the concentration of hydroxide ion in standard unit.

alkalinity is defined as the concentration hydroxide , bicarbonate, carbonate in your system.

pardon me if my defination is not accurate enouggh, chemistry is such headache during secondary school.

however CR need a CO2( i think carbonic acid will be produce) as it require low pH to burn the calcium carbonate to release the calcium and carbonate .

oh yes. . my bad. . . try to go for the biggest possible tank possible. In ur case i wld say 5 x 2.5 x 2 feet tank.

From experience, its best to get all possible equipments before the tank as it wld be easier to design the sump to suit ur equipments.
