What is the best colour for the background?

Bro it really depends on which part of the ocean you trying to recreate... light blue simulating shallow reef, dark blue deep water and black for dark cavern and sea bed

But if you are placing your tank in such a way that both long part of the tank does not face the wall, then no back ground is the best (like those in LFS).

so far i think no background is the best... but if really must choose, then Black.

I used to go for black, cos i thought it made the tnak look bigger, spacier etc. now my tank is in the middle of the house, up to the ceiling, so no more background.

Black provides the best effect as it creates a strong contrast between the subjects (corals, fish) and the background. Blue, on the other hand, seems pretty "artificial" to me.

At the end of the day, it all boils down to personal preference. Take a look at some sample tanks and pick your choice.

Majority likes black. But personally, i like blue. It gives me the tranquility feel looking at the tank and resembles tt of a shallow reef. It also brightens up my whole tank and reflect lights better.

Black. the lighter colors will look quite ugly once algae grow and its quite hard to clean the back. and bright colors will stand out in a black background. except balck fish!

I voted for black. The color of fishes with stand up better. Also if have white spot , easier to notice.
