Lunar Tracker

Another product fly into Singapore.....

One of the recent advances in aquarium technology is the idea of providing moonlight for the tank. Much attention has been given to the daytime lighting system, but up until recently, most aquariums were completely dark at night. By adding simulated moonlight, we bring our aquariums one step closer to a more natural environment.

Simulated moonlight is dim and typically blue. This is done to match the color and intensity of the light well below the surface of the water. Most of the moon lights on the market are made using LEDs. LEDs are perfect for this application as they produce just enough light, use little energy, generate practically no heat and last thousands of hours. Many moon lights also come with dimmers so you can adjust the intensity to your liking.

One of the differences between moonlight and sunlight is that while the intensity of sunlight is relatively consistent from day to day, moonlight varies considerably. During a lunar month, about 29.53 days, moonlight varies from almost non-existent (New Moon) to quite bright (Full Moon).

It is common knowledge that the lunar cycle affects nature in many ways. The effect that interests the aquarist is the impact on reproduction. Research suggests the lunar cycle plays a role in signaling reproduction in corals, fish and invertebrates.

This is the reason that dimmers are important on a moon light. Many people use dimmers to manually simulate the lunar cycle. However, it is practically impossible to do this by hand. The minute adjustments needed from day to day are too difficult to do with a manual dimmer. In addition, just as the intensity of moonlight varies from day to day, the manual adjustment would have to be made daily as well. Quite a hassle!

so far its really solid......thanks to Bro Nim for helping me to get this product..

sorry not pic as i don have dc

hmm...i know some brothers here have...

Nimsg, a few bros, better don reveal their name if they don like it...

but this thing is cool...ofcoz this cannot compare with those DIY moonlights where this is a "Lunar" tracker....

and btw need to change the Adapter to local standards..which can be done at most homefix or diy stores @16-25 dollar

Where or how u attach it to your lightings

You can attach it to any Wire trunking , wooden frame..or get those 3M tapes to stick onto the hood.

If you guys want to do a bulk order pls be informed of the below msg

Due to the unexpected demand for LunarTrackers and my poor planning, I am currently out of stock on LunarTrackers. I have more being manufactured and they should start arriving around 8/30/2006. Be aware that if you order now, you will not receive the LunarTracker until they are back in stock. Orders will be filled in the order they are received.

Previously I was using those Coralife LED moonlight as well as those DIYed from Sim Lim Tower but found their performance in a different category.

Actually, I chanced upon this Lunar Tracker during a visit to a co-worker house in California and was surprised that such a product exists which actually simulates the different phase of the moon.

Anyway, cut the story short, I bought this and this unit been operation 24x7 for the past 2 years.

Here is a pic showing how the LEDs are installed using velcro tape to a customized length of plastic conduit spanning the width of the tank. By using velcro, you can place the LEDs in any preferred position on the conduit.

Haha... I know LED is the future... SOLARIS for one is extremely promising and impressive... but the price is still a bit forbiding and the technology untested... perhaps one day...

I think the moon cycle feature is similar to the Tunze Multricontroller 7095 right? The AquaMedic Light Computer also allows for incandescent light bulbs (up to 100W) to simulate moon cycle too :)

What is the maximum LEDs allowed for each controller?

Another question... I don't see a LED/LCD screen, so the moon cycle does not sync with actual day of the month (just like Multicontroller 7095)?

Sorry for having so many questions

The Lunar Tracker is a microprocessor controlled device that attaches to the moon light which the vendor used NSAS's web site which has statistics on the intensity of the moonlight on any given day.

In short, you can either use the Lunar tracker to simulate the actual lunar cycle of 29.5 days with the 15th day having 100% illumination from the LEDS. From there it will then proceed to adjust itself indefinitely

If you want the Lunar Tracker to be in sync or on the same schedule with the moon cycle, just set the swith to the "auto" position and hit the "reset" swtich on full moon day.

aquatronica with dimming module can do it too.. except u gotta b a v good programmer!!

waiting.. anytime soon

Don't think that the dimming module can simulate the different phases of the moon without the NASA lunar data unless you can access the micro-code. :P

Fyi, the cost of the Lunar Tracker is much less than the dimming module. ;)

Don't you just love it when people quote big names for things that is just the same as your typical chinese lunar calendar???

Anyway.. you don't need 'micro code' just patience and logic to program what you want.. :whistle:peace:

bet your lunar tracker can't simulate dawn/morning/noon/afternoon/evening/dusk/night eh?

compare apples to apples.. I'm just saying the dimming module allows me to do something similar without buying additional stuffs

:peace:
