Hi...i remember i read it somewhere that you can soak live rocks in water with SG between 1.04-1.05 for a minute.....this will drive out most pests like worms, crabs...etc...from the holes.....this method will not harm the beneficial bacterias also......personally i have not tried out this method as it will burn a hole in my pocket for buying marine salt to produce salt water of that salinity.

hope it helps....

Regards,

Wilson

the worms are probably brittleworms, unless they are fireworms then more disturbing

quite harmless really, wont bite your corals or anything

they act more like a cleanup crew than pest

no doubt it is ugly, but it is harmless so...

1.if you soak your rocks in freshwater your rocks will become dead rocks

and start to produce ammonia

2. get a predator to kill the worms, eg dottyback

3. the worms come out about 1-2 hours after dark, can try to catch them with chopsticks or tongs(dont use your hands to catch, they have spines), use red light to see, red light is supposedly less apparent to them, so they wont go slide back in their hole so quickly

4. make a trap and put bait to lure them out

5. leave them alone, i have a big one in my tank. so far has been cleaning up dead matter on the sand bed, so i decided to leave it alone.
