Washing LR with tapwater is definitely a nono. It will kill the stuff on the LR. If must, just rinse it in saltwater.

The plants whether need to remove would probably depend on what kind of plants. More details would certainly help.

LR comes from sea... = they need saltwater for the organisms in em to survive... using tapwater wld simply kill off all the organisms(good n bad)...which makes ur LR to DEAD ROCKs...

taking pests off the LRs... i dun haf much experience...i put em in my tank and wait for em to come out...and use hands to catch em...n kill em wif hotwater..

regarding this issue...someone who is more experience...i would like to hear from him/her as well ....

have read in a web stating that getting rid of mantis shrimp if you know which lr it been hiding, just soak that lr in freshwater to drive it out.

"Remove the rock from the aquarium and submerge it into some freshwater or inject it into the burrow with a syringe. The shrimp will come out once the stress of being in freshwater is felt. If the mantis is wanted alive, then quickly remove from the water with something other than a hand, they are not called thumb splitter for nothing. Or perform the freshwater injection over a container so they are contained and captured when they exit the rock. A short period of freshwater dunking will not kill anything on/within the live rock."

do not wash your liferock with freshwater! thats like subjecting your face to an acid bath. imagine the pain. the horror. the agony! OUCH!

true, quick flushes of freshwater wouldn't kill much. but remember chlorine behaves much like an acid to those stuff, they get oxidised I think *damn chemistry is screwed. got test this week somemore. si liao lar. :P*

but prevention is better than cure. so don't do that unless you want to flush your poor rock with "acid"
