nitrate spike

dear bros...

really in need of your advise.my 2x2.5x2 tank had already been sspike.There is a high nitrate after I had put about 6kg of uncured LR.I had make a partial water change from my 1yr stabiled water.There were quite a number of worms too coming out from its hiding place.now headache....quite a newbie too in marine hobby.

pls help....

Haha... you are indeed a newbie bro...

Btw... how come you put 6kg of uncured LR into your 1yr stabilized tank? For a 2ft tank, the 6kg uncured LR is way too much. You should've bought cured LR or introduce them real slow.

I think the Nitrification cycle (A N N) is working like crazy now... and it will remain so for a while. Check your Ammonia and Nitrite also, I suspect all 3 are spiking.

You didn't mention about your fishes/corals. Are they dying? (as expected).

But if you tank doesn't contain any (or anymore) fishes/corals... let the spike continues... you basically restarted the ANN cycle... all over again...

Right now, do water change, protein skimmer go full force.

Since this is an emergency, you can also consider dosing some products out in the market to take care of Nitrate quickly such as Nitratlock or something... check Reefdepot.com.sg
