I'm away on business, I just got a message saying its 'peeling'. For the last few days before i went away it was not opening up like normal.

Will it poison the tank if left in? Should I tell my friend to remove it?

first of all,how big is your tank n what skimmer you r using?if you have a big tank n a good skimmer,then it shouldnt b a problem.

600 litre including Sump, with a Macro skimmer (not sure of the model, its about 60 to 70 cm high and has a square body, Venturi)

i don't rate the Macro as a great skimmer. i tested the water before going away and the only problem was a high PO4 level, so i added a Polyfilter.

Get a phosphate remover like rowaphos to remove your PO4.

Actually I consider elegance coral as one of the hardest LPS.

Is your sandbed brown?

I'll going to try Rowaphos as soon as I get back, i just had a Polyfilter at hand.

My sand bed has quite a bit of reddy/purple and a bit of green micro algae growing on it recently, I wouldnt say its brown i.e diatoms.

Just leave it. Nothing you can do except checking your water parameters to make sure you get it correct. Hopefully it can recover but chances are slim. Be prepared.

Below is my experience on elegance:

1. Dose Iodine and Strontium.

2. If situation continue like this, maybe it's starving. Feed it with some prawn meats.
