SRC Member spaceman Posted July 3, 2006 SRC Member Share Posted July 3, 2006 Hi! I am thinking of getting a scooter Blenny. Are they like Mandarain, live only on copepods, other small pods. (very hard to sustain) Or can they be easily trained to take brine mysis etc? Thanks!
SRC Member iantoh Posted July 3, 2006 SRC Member Share Posted July 3, 2006 hi there bro spaceman, scooter blennys, or the ocellate dragonet that i think youre referring to, takes to the foods we can provide more easily than mandarins. i personally feed mine with frozen mysid shrimp using a syringe. even when i insert my syringe without any food sucked up in the tubing, it will peck away at the tip of the syringe, so its quite smart too. if youd like to try, i can give you a set of syringe and hard airline tubing. the reason i have to employ this feeding method is because otherwise, my other fish will consume all the foods i feed, and itll never get its fair share as its not very fast as compared to other fishes. if you have a low flow tank with very docile tank mates, it might be able to catch sufficient food competing with the rest, but the primary concern with keeping dragonets is that theyre usually too timid and too slow to compete for foods with the rest, even when they recognise captive foods. cheers, ian Quote My Goniopora Nano! SRC Member iantoh Posted July 3, 2006 SRC Member Share Posted July 3, 2006 hhaha... thanks bro. ive battled for months trying to get coralline to grow instead of green hair algae, and despite everything i tried, it kept growing. then came the big mishap, when temps reached 34degrees when my chiller pump failed, and half my tank perished, but now i have coralline growing like nobodys business. its a strange and fascinating hobby to say the least! if youre looking for a scooter, try coral farm ya. its cheap, bout $4 or $5 there, and theyre in the flush of health. cheers, ian Quote My Goniopora Nano!
