It's a waste that it crashed due to electrical failure.

Yup its sad to hear of this too..hope will have better precaution measure to prevent such mischap in future..

That is why I recommend that them to install a sms power failure notification now. For the effort and money invested it is worthwhile.

in my own experience, I went through these:
a tank takes nearly 2yrs (1yr plus plus) to stabilize and settle down (coralline algae building, other algae disappearing etc).

By the time it settle down, lots of disappointment would have happened
eg 1: system crash potentially due to lack of experience/knowledge or even say power failure etc,

eg 2: fishes/corals can't survive long bla bla..
eg 3: pest and algae bloom etc

eg 4: everything settled but livestock still die somewhat.

lots of money spent to get disappointment (my euphylia tank wipeout, clearing few hundred worth of corals within weeks

and still requires time to maintain well (water change, additives, removing unhealthy livestocks etc)

isn't it easier to just give up rather than spending more money to "wastage"?

then again, when tank stabilized, all I need is to WC, add additives and occasionally remove rocks to clean algae/pests

Most of ppl is due to shifting house.. 1 of my frenz quit due to a power trip when he went back malaysia for cny.. He came back all gone.. Furthermore his time dun have all those china product we using now.. All equipments are 3x the price. Furthermore his kids is young and decide to upgrade his house so he gave up.. As for my dad, he dun have much time as his workload is heavy. My mum nag at him as most of the time my mum do maintenance and feeding. So he gave up too..
