I think you can ask Morgan about the 250W Radium.....

He used that to supplement his greater than 1000W light source... :P

I'm interested too.... heh heh after seeing RC's TOTM for the current month....

Reefer was with 10kks and switched to Radiums.....

fickle fickle fickle! ;)

400w Radiums are good... but don't last too long when overdriven...I have no experience with the 250w Radiums but I presume its the same as the Ushio Blue 400w (run closer to spec).

The 250W Radium is an inefficient bulb compared to the 400W Radium. It produces less than half the lumen of the 400W brother, 3000 lumen and 8000 lumens respectively when driven by the proper spec ballast. You will be paying for 250W of electricity but you won't get a lot of light.

its hands down in favor of hte 10K BLV.

anytime youhave the same wattage, the lower K bulb is always going to put out more PAR than a higher k bulb.

Couldn't be more true. Sad fact isn't it? 4300K BLV puts out tons of light but I can't even imagine what a planted tank will look like. I think 10000K or 10000K+ bulbs strike a proper balance.

The Radium is special because of the way the 400W bulb is used and only applies to it. Any other wattage of Radium Blue bulbs will behave differently. Unlike 10000K BLV bulbs where you will expect them to put out the same colour temperature across the wattage. Radium never marketed its Blue bulb with any K rating, it's not 20000K or 50000K, probably higher, it's just a blue bulb, so as long as it produces blue light it satisfies it's product requirement.

I like the colour of overdriven 400W Radium Blues but they are too expensive to use on the long run because they must be replace after 6-9 months. In my next project I'll probably use 400W BLV Blues with 250W BLV 10000K
