Hi yah.. anybody know if LFS still bring in Nautilus? Heard there were few farms bringing them in years back. Think its before the CITIES AVA saga. Now I haven't heard of any. Are they controlled species?

Why do we use "My 2 cents worth" when 1 cents are not legal tender in Singapore anymore? Shouldn't it be 5 cents worth?

Um, never seen any in the LFS b4.

Anyway, they are usually at the dept of 400-500m.

They come up to about 100m to feast on crabs.

Ur fish tank how deep !? :D

If you manage to buy, can I do a house visit !?

Will be damn spectacular to see 1 upclose.

Good luck hunting !!!

There were few shipments few years back.. but I never got to see it in person also.

The feeling of having a prehistoric creature in a tank is amazing.:lol: .. Think some bros here should have seen before.

Saw it at LCK a few months back.

maxstar81, Terryz, depth really doesn't mean they can't survive shallow waters.. its how they are conditioned in the process of shallowing off that determines whether they can survive well.. barotrauma, bends etc.. just like divers going too deep ;)

its the temperature thats the problem.. the tank they were in was sooooo cold condensation was forming macham like the tank sweating

oh oh.. yeah.. deeper is much colder or something like that.. man!! :( .. so in order to keep them, I must set my temp much lower I suppose?

so those in CF just last year. If you must, i think their has a slightly better chance of surviving as it seems that these people know what they are doing in acccilmaing the beautiful animals to captive condition. But as everyone say, its not easy, and given that i have not personally kept one before can't really comment....maybe you got some lobong with underwater world who can share their expereience in keeping these species....

nautilus can be kept in captivity, and is not difficult to keep them happy.

the most important element is temperature.

water quality needs to be excellent, with minimum flux of parameter.

diet is is also important for good growth, as they need lots of calcium.

the other important thing is lighting. too much and they suffer from eye infection this guys are nocturnal animals. lower wattage blue moon tubes are the best for them. this is are captive born baby nautilus. 1-2 months old. ;)

for those that want to keep nautilus at home.

if u can meet their requirements, do it.

if u can't, don't even think about it.

its not for beginners and even pros, will have a hard time maintening the water parameters, not the animals itself.

temperature alone will cost u a boom to maintain, they do best at 15-18 degrees C

condensation from the tank will make u mop the floors 5 times a day just like islam prayer. unless u keep them in an aircon room at 18 degrees C and also run a chiller then both u and the animal will be really happy.

if u really like to look at this animals, go to a public aqaurium.

leave this beautiful animals to the Xperts ;)

cheers

cut fish, cut prawns, cut squid.
