what is a good sand shifter to keep to prevent my algae from growing on the sand substrate? my sand is a mixture of grand 1 and 3 i think. just a small layer over the base of the tank. < 1 inch

you can try a sand dollar - can get from marinelife

sand sifting goby - very cute seems like they are eating sand

or

a sand shifting starfish - can get from reborn

actually best way to prevent algae from growing is to keep your phosphates at a minimum( very close to 0), by using phosphate removing materials together with a fr. keep your nitrates down also, doing water changes with di water, or use a de-nitrator

Hi Bro,

This is my favourite.... Simply sift and sift and sift.... Just make sure that ur LR are firmly seated.... He tends to sift until there is a hole under the rock where he rest... Cute fella~ Would have voted him worker of the year! Diamond Goby!

i got a diamond goby that pair with my blue check goby. but please, if you are going to have corals on the sandbed, forget about them. they kill my open brain thinking they are bumber, take a mouth of sand go above the coral and drop the sand onto it. but otherwise, they are fun to look at. however they love to make your sandbed super untidy, mine love to dug lots of holes, moving from one to another each night and a fortess infront of their house.

I would suggest black sea cucumber, get a big one. They are hard working and will keep your sand bed free from algaes. Really effective. I'm happy to have one in my tank. My sand bed use to have lots of algaes, with the BSC, everyday the sand bed is white and clear. Get one, you won't regret it. Make sure you don't have crabs.
