I notice that there's almost lots of fine particles in my tank! Is it normal?

If not, is there anyways to eliminate them in order to create a real clear water? I'm using SERA sponge! Will it be the caused to it? I tried turning off my skimmer but still notice those fine particles ard the tank! :(

Pls advise!!! :thanks:

These particles normally would flow into your overflow and pickup by the filter wool. If you notice there's lots of them in your tank, I reckon you should change a fresh filter to see if the particles will get lesser or not.

Another reason could be you do not have enough flow/ water circulation in the tank for the particles to get into the overflow column.

Any filter wool to recommended? I'm using those SERA white wool and not sure if it's able to trap those fine particles well or not??? :(

Hi,

i faced the same problem as you are before went it was like when i newly started with this hobby few years back. And having my own R&D thing i finally managed to overcome this problem.

i'm no expert but this is what i tried and been using until today. i've got nine layers of filter wool in sump which consists of 4 layers at the bottom which is not submerged into the sump another 1 layer of 25 micron filter which will be in the middle and finally another 4 layers on the top where the water from the overflow to your sump is.

the 8 layers doesn't cost me that much but the 25 micron will. i guess you could try other method in countering the problem that you are facing and i believed that there are reefers out there have a better way which they already overcome with the same situation as u are.

anyway hope you will find the solution soonest. goodluck.

Will the direction of the return pipe affect/ prevent those particles from flowing to the overflow box?

I don't use filter wool at all. Jus wet skimming. YOu'll lose some salt water, but it works well. I also have quite a bit for flow for my small tank, enough to bring all the particulate matter to the overflow and then for the skimmer to take out. This leaves only the heavier stuff on the bottom.
