New to reefs...

Hi there, I have been a FW hobbyist for sometime now mostly playing with nano planted / moss tanks.

After seeing SW setups in shops, I must say I am quite moved to try reefs out.

But before I start burning holes in my wallet and killing hapless sea creatures, I would like to request advice from the masters here to see if I really have what it takes...

My limitations: price and space

My setup will definitely be space constrained so it has to be a nano tank, probably a 6g or a 12g.

Question: Should I buy JBJ NC or are the china cubes (like JEBO) good enough?

I aim to keep the nicer corals so I will probably aim for the small Resun chiller, so besides the cube and the chiller, what else do I need in terms of equipment?

[continued]

After reading thru about sump tanks and all that has overwhelmed me a little, so maybe to put it this way, can I keep a nano reef healthy with just a cube and chiller? Or am I still missing something?

Also are there different cubes for SW and FW? From what I have seen some do not have moonlight installed? I saw a 12g JBJ NC selling at AM for $150, is that a good price / model?

Also seen some post saying that JBJ cubes have to be heavily modified before they can take reefs successfully, true?

Do I also have to buy gadgets to monitor the water condition etc.?

Cos NC $150 + chiller $218, I still have some room to play with before hitting the $500 mark...

Thanks in advance for all your expert advice...

1stly u need to decided what are you keeping.

take example if u keep corals, u need good water parameters, lighting as well..

u also need to have a good skimmer if u intend to have fishes.

nano tank, the water parameters flururate easily.
