SRC Member Dazza Posted May 19, 2006 SRC Member Share Posted May 19, 2006 Hello bros n sis i m in process of planning 3 by 3 by 2.5 cube tank. Think of using starphire glass but got a query - is it too glaring for our eyes. Wud it put a starin on our eyes if we sit infront too long. If so then maybe i'll stick with the cheaper normal glass... Tx vm for your comments and help Quote Main Tank : 48 inch by 36 inch by 28 inch (2 sides starphire glass)Sump Tank :Return Pump :Chiller : Starmax Compressor 1 HP Drop coilChiller Return Pump Protein Skimmer :Wave Maker :Fluidised Reactor :

SRC Member tayhonglee Posted May 19, 2006 SRC Member Share Posted May 19, 2006 hi dazza, my last tank used low iron glass as well (diamant). its quite ok leh, not glaring or anything. but coloring is definitely better, esp. under halides. imo, its a good investment. imagine you buy a $100 power clam or prata and it looks duller because of the glass. you might want to consider other brands of low iron glass as well, since some are cheaper. SRC Member Elune Posted May 19, 2006 SRC Member Share Posted May 19, 2006 Starphire glass is the scratch-proof type of glass rite? (only diamond is enuf to scratch it? or its sapphire glass...) Good investment in my opinion. U wun be staring at it 24/7 anyways, so no need to worry abt glaring or such rite? hope some reefers here who have used such material can comment. I m curious also. Achilles Tang
starphire glass is just the brand name of the low-iron glass. It is not sapphire... if not your tank would be in the millions of dollars! Starphire is certainly not scratch proof... in fact, it is probably even less scratch-resistant than normal glass! You will certainly get good clarity... and it will not be 'glaring' in any way.
