target feed sun

You use a syringe... inject food to the polyps (opened). You can use Cyclopeeze, Reefroid, Mysis, Brine Shrimp... even pellets!!! They eat anything... just need to target to help them eat... some reefers flood the tank with food (floating to let them catch their own food) but this can be quite messy. You can off the protein skimmer/filter a while to allow the extra food to circulate in the tank a little longer (for other corals/fishes). Don't forget to on back your skiimer/filter after feeding.

You use a bit of food and inject on the close polyps... if they are "still alive"... they will open within 5 to 10 minutes :D

IMO it needs alot of time to train ur suns to open up fully. have to inject cyclopeezes or mysis daily(if u can), or 4 time weekly. until its fully opened and the next time u feed ur fishes it should open too.

hi there bro xersion,

try placing your sun corals in an area of very good flow. then dissolve your frozen mysid shrimps in a bowl with tank water, suck up some water with a syringe, then squirt this water into the path of the sun corals. they will extend their tentacles further, then either use a syringe and tubing to target feed the sun coral polyps, or flood the tank with mysids or cyclopeeze.

i find the flooding method raises nutrients signifcantly though, because, inorder for the colony to ensnare sufficient food purely by chance of it floating into its tentacles reach, you need to feed alot.

i find that flow is often neglected as a concern for sun corals, but inorder to entice its tentacles to open up, it needs good flow, as that mimics natural conditions. if theres no flow, it means no chance food will come by, so it remains retracted.

well, hope that helps,

cheers,

ian

not really true... if u looked at the example at Iwarna's... in one of their tank, their sun corals are kinda high-up there... while some are spread below and underneath... and hanging above is MH...

but since sun corals do not need lights, most ppl would think: "why waste precious land space above when one can just locate the sun corals in dark areas and leave the open areas above for light-demanding corals?".

didn't someone use to cut a 1litre plastic bottle, invert it to form a dome then used it to cover the sun coral, the top opening used to inject the food...

like this the current won't blow away the food too quickly...

i find that high water movements can stimulate the sun coral to open without the use of other stimulants such as cyclopeeze.

i used to put my sun coral directly infront of the seio620 and it open up nice nice

so u can do that, and when u feed your fish mysis or brine, some of it will get blown by the seio in the direction of the sun coral and it will grab them and eat :D

saves time on target feeding
