Hi ppl,

Just a query, had any tried ordering live stock (fishes, invert and corals)

from the internet? (ie overseas)

Like to find out the following, assuming that the overseas party is willing

to ship here

1) Must we inform AVA, or does AVA plays any part in the importation?

What is the (illegal) procedure to follow?

Pls note that this is for personel "consumption", not as a company doing

import business, such as a LFS.

Thanks for any input

Zephyros

It's not cost wise to be buying from the Internet.... Firstly, most LFS come from the Indo-Pacific Region (Where we are, rite?)... We are in fact one of the main exporters for ornament and marine fishes to all parts of the world... Isn't it a bit weird to be asking one or two fishes to be "imported back" and you pay obnoxious shipment cost for it? Unless we are talking about Carribbean fishes or some of the most exotic ones not found here... which bring us to another point...

Marine fish exporters hardly (in fact, never) does any shipment overseas to an individual... AVA aside, they would probably have to do some paper works for their customs at their country as well... For a mere few fishes, I dun think they would go through all that trouble...

Besides you will not be guaranteed of a live fish by the time it reaches here.... They have a certain quota of "die-offs" during the shipment and this ratio is calculated and absorbed into part of the cost. That's why they usually send in bulk.... to cover the cost for such "die-offs". (And the reason why they cater only to business wholesalers rather than individuals).
