I'm about to start a mixed 3' reef/fish tank.

Instead of having a deep tank of 24"-30" . I thought of splitting into 2 tanks.

1 with 18" dept, the other 12" dept. One stacking over the other, but sharing the same sump.

You think 2 tank is better? What are your advice?

Thanks in advance

I always had the though of doing that :P.. I still have a bottom tank unused but intend to commission it.. someday.. connecting the system together.. one thing to note. your sump might not be huge enought to support. What I think it might work is make the bottom tank a very DSB and add in as much rocks as possible..

Why do we use "My 2 cents worth" when 1 cents are not legal tender in Singapore anymore? Shouldn't it be 5 cents worth?

"Its easier to blame the 'mantis' or crabs in the tank for missing & dead livestocks.."

Yup.. agree with bro arcanehacker that your sump may not be big enough to contain all the water if pump fails..

thats if you're using the sump that u showed me.. unless u use a bigger one and leave it pretty empty during normal operation...

Using powerpoint to quickly draw then copy to a photopaint then export to ajepg - I got this. Is this what you are thinking???

If so, why not, if you adjust properly the overflow will not be too great as the partitions can be controlled. But in my opinion, a large sump is better than a small one and you can have more water volume to play by. In case of emergency the larger sump can ensure that the main tank do not overflow.

I like the spilt tank provided you can see the tank from all 3 sides, else it is wasted.

:)
