Well here is an update on the tank which is around 9 months old. Tank has only 80L / 20G net of water. I water change twice a week at 25% each. IMO large water changes are the best way to keep the water quality up in such a small volume.

Tank has come a long way since the pics in the begining. Hope you enjoy.

Tank is basically complete. Will grow out a bit. So hopefully i can now sit back and enjoy. May add a few cleaner shrimps again in the months to come.

Cheers

Many thanks for the thumbs up.

I have been keeping reef tanks for 16 years. From 300G full blown reefs to this tank. Also i was breeding clowns in Australia for a period of time and selling to the local shops in Australia.

This tanks is fairly straight forward. I add one drop of zeovit ammino acids daily, 1 drop of zeovit iodide twice a week. 2 x 22L water changes weekly. I add Seachems reef buffeer to my RO water reserve and i dose 1 cap of Reef Complete to the tank bi-weekly. I run phosban and purigen in a phosban reactor that is run of a small Eheim 1048 pump. Tank water levels as follows:-

PH 7.6 low - 8.2 high

KH 7.6 DKH

Temp 25.6 - 27 deg (summer max)

Nitrate 5 PPM

Nitrite / ammonia - Nil

PO4 - less than 0.03 PPM

MG - 1290 PPM

CA - 420 PPM

Lighting is 1 x 150W Ushio 10K and 1 x 70W Astralux 14K. (Pic taken with 14K light on only). Lighting period as follows:-

2PM - 14K globes on

4PM - 10K globes on - 14K globes off

8PM - 10K globes off - 14K globes on

10PM - 14K globes off / blue LED night light on from 10PM till 8AM

The Deltec skimmer works well, but i have to skim at the wetest seting to get any waste. This reduces MG levels quiet a bit as wet skimming reduces esential salts from the water colum. This is not a problem to me as i water change over 50% in one week keeping levels in line with NSW. Other than that the skimmer is compact, out of sight and quiet. However if it removes much more than a good airlift skimmer is questionable. It however blows the tunze nano skimmer out of the park.

Cheers

Thanks again for the thumbs up.

I have a total of 7 power heads in the tank. 3 are on full time and the other 4 (on top are on timers).

The lights are all on timers (1 timer for the 10K and another timer for the 14K). Aquamedic do a light computter that can handle up to 3 lights (1 moon light, 1 actinic and one main day light). But this will cost a lot more than just 2 timers.

Our ASW selection is not so great in Australia, but i was using Aquamedic reef salt for a period of time with OK results. I'm now using NSW and i find the corals look better IMO. The Aquamedic salt was very low in KH which needed to be buffered and very very low in MG so i had to add Epsom salts to the make up water. I was not so keen on doing this as it pushes the Sulphate levels up (Epsom salts are magnesium Sulphate) which causes the ratio of sulphate ions to be out of line from NSW levels.

I was thinking of adding a few more fish, any sugestions?

Cheers
