Can I use freshwater rocks for baserock?

I have some rocks I picked up and used during my freshwater days, for my cichlid tank. Now I was wondering if it is safe to use as base rock in my marine tank?

In my opinion, why not?? Better be safe, soak the rocks for about 1-2 weeks in a pail with sea water, run an air pump so that the air and salt and whatever dirt, bacteria can be balanced. Then can put into your main tank, of course you best get som elive rocks to add into your marine tank. The fresh water rocks are different from your salt water rocks. The SW is "live" and is full of "holes" while FW rocks are normally granite or some other "solid" type so is used as decoration or to add bulk to the overall landscape.

There are many school of thoughts on this issue so I thought I'd better play safe and ask about it. I remember one reefer even used lava rock instead of liverocks for a marine tank.

I plan to use these rocks as base and place LR on top of them, don't know if any granite stuff may leak out from it.

shouldnt be any problem. i have a reefer friend that use bricks as

base rocks and covered them with LRs after that.
