nuj244
Hi All, Is aragonite sand the same as grade 0 sand? I read one article advising to use aragonite sand as substrate instead of sedimentary or siliceous sand? Anybody has info to share? I would rather put it on pumps, skimmers, etc. Normal sand will do.
golfmac
Hi, Argonite sand are those you find in calcium reactors... It provides a stable base for the tank over a long period of time. If you have a thick normal sand bed, over a period of time, bacteria builds on the base causing more touble for your in the long run. Argonite will not. If you want to know more about that, you may look for Chin Hock in Aquamart. He taught me this. good luck to you. My base is half argonite!!!! hehe Quote Size ye the day O while ye may, the time is still a flying, the SPS that smiles today, tomorrow might be dying! jervismun
i heard that aragonite sand is dissolves ( very very slowly )... Can aragnonite be a natural substitute for Calcium? Appreciate any advice thanks! I am currently using Aqua Medic Hydrocarbon (same as argonite I think) partially for my sand bed. It is extremely expensive if you have a sizeable tank. The same Hydrocarbon can be used to fill up Calcium Reactor. Yes, Hydrocarbon will dissolve very slowly (depending on CO2 content in the tank) and will contribute calcium to the tank. But because they dissolve so slowly and uncontrollable, it is not advisable to use this method as the only source of calcium. Hydrocarbon will also act as a good buffer to the water. According to Cheng Hock, algae are less likely grow on carbon... but I notice algae on my sand bed... yeah, you can talk to them. But I think, their fine grade is out of stock, the medium one (which I bought) is not very pretty as sand bed. Caution! It is really really expensive to fill up your sand bed with this product!!!
