Hi there,

i have seen you have quite a number of live stocks in your 4ft tank. Can you share your regime of feeding them and the maintaince that you make? For the past few years, did you encounter some problems for eg. ich, unwanted alge....?

Me quite new in this hobby and from the looks of your tank, it inspire me to go for mix reef like yours. i'm presently running a 3ft FOWLR after upgrading from a 2ft tank.

:thanks:

Spawns,

I actually converted my pleco tank into a simple fish and softie tank a few years ago. I started off with 1 month of cycling, followed by damsels, clowns tank.

After a few months, I put in 1 tang and started taking out the damsels. (Only start putting in tangs after at least 6 months). With garlic feeding, the tangs will not get ich.

At the same time, I added lights (PL in those days cos got no T5). At this stage, you will experience bloom of cyno and algae. Let them die out by feeding little. After they slowing die out in a few months, you can add corals and a few more fish. This is also the time to add a chiller. I also converted my canister to sump and upgraded skimmer.

I started with mushie and softies which bloomed and did well. This time, also be selective about how many fish and what type you want in the tank. I have 4 tangs for algae control and mostly anthias as my base fish.

Finally, about 1 year plus ago, I decided that my tank was matured enough to go SPS. But my heart aches to give or sell away my precious mushies and LPS. Thus, I decided to go mix. I decided to house them in two separate sections (half the tank each) to minimise chemical warfare. I changed the lights to MH (150W for LPS side and 400W for SPS side) and added a tunze stream that blows towards the SPS side. After rescaping and killing some corals in the process, I finally got the present look which has been this way for over a year. Now, some of my monti and acros are encrusting over the rocks. I'm patiently waiting for them to fight for space and see nature take control.

Over the years, fish keeping no problem as most of my fish over 2-3 years old. Only some species of anthias a bit problematic. Unwanted algae not so problematic as my algae in the sump grows very fast and suck up most of the PO4 and I use Rowa also. Never had ich since I used Kent garlic extreme in my fish food. Even the PBT also survived fights with the resident yellow with cuts but not ich. I swear by Kent garlic.

Hope that helps.

Anyway, I haven't update picts of my tank for a while.
