How to clean my skimmer?

Hi,

My skimmer is quite dirty and it didn't came with a manual. So, I don't know how to dismantle some of the parts in order to reach in and clear the sticky brown stuff.

With reference to the picture,

The YELLOW stars are the areas inside the "U-tube" that I cannot reach. I don't know how to separate the "U-tube" (the top yellow star) from the "L-tube" (the bottom yellow star). If I could, I'll be able to insert a toothbrush in and give them a good scrub.

The GREEN star is the area inside the skimmer. Layers of brown stuff have accumulated after months of usage. Since my skimmer is quite deep, a conventional toothbrush will not be long enough to reach in. Any suggestions?

The BLUE star is the area inside the tube, which I don't think can be detached from the base of the skimmer. If it could, then I should be able to scrub the inside very easily. Any ideas? I don't dare to pull the tube out coz I'm afraid that it may break.

The RED stars are the areas inside the base of the skimmer. It's very dirty. The heavier stuff are all trapped there. There's really no way to get them out. Bummer! Is it possible to open up the base and clean it?

Thanks guys! :thanks:

Actually while reaching into the skimmer, the skimmer scratched me instead. I got several cuts by the sharp plastic edges. :(

Sigh, I was hoping to find ways to dismantle the skimmer. Looks like I gotta do it the hard way. :(

being cut by skimmer is usually the case for most skimmers.. For what I know, most people do not wash the whole skimmer. Usually only clear the cup and waste collector.

from the looks of your skimmer, I don't think there is anyway to dismantle it further. Becareful not to loosen anything that is not supposed to as should cause leaks.

Why do we use "My 2 cents worth" when 1 cents are not legal tender in Singapore anymore? Shouldn't it be 5 cents worth?
