Controlling Algae.

Recommended Posts

Yo bro,

Tangs are not really excellent at controlling algae if you have other carnivorous fishes in ur tank that u have to feed meat. Sooner or later ur tang will be omnivorous with a preference for meat.

Algae blenny is good but make sure u have enough algae for it to eat.

Try other types of snails la.

I fully agreed with the algae blenny and try to get it from Henry. All his algae blenny had already fed with a supplement food which is very healthy. Had bought one from him feeding was good but only last for 2 weeks coz got bullied with my bristle tooth tang and died

Question :

Is the yellow tang suitable for controlling algae ?

(i mean I don't have much alage, but will it eat them ?)

My cowrie only eats the algae on the LR and never ventures out.

Or should I get an Algae Blenny ?

a healthy specimen of yellow blue and purple tang does control nuisance hairy green algae to a extent ;)

do anyone of u haf problems with tomini tang trying to steal food from corals when u feed corals?

if not i think i can get it

Hrmz, the tomini doesn't really steal food from my LPS but even if it did, i guess its just normal. All fishes will go after the food when they see it, so i'l normally make sure my fishes are full before feeding my LPS. :)

Tried several types of snails ....

Had 5 Turbos which died in one week ...

Probably killed by my wrasse ...

prob u can try acclimatizing snails bought in the future better ;)

btw, u did not mention wat type of algae u wanna control, hair? cyano? diatom?

another way is to find out the source of nuissance algae growing... could it be due to insufficient flow? (algae caused by accumulation of dissolved nutrients.. therefore, add powerhead) or is it due to high nitrate or phosphate? (regular change of water, use absorbers, prevent overfeeding, reduce bioload, etc.)

My first marine tank leh .....

Just know that there is algae ....

(because most of my fish are predatory so nitrates are off the charts)

have some hairy ones ....abit ...

And what just looks like normal algae on sides of walls ...

Tried an algae blenny ....

Got killed by my Grouper .....

Might try Tangs next ...
