If a tank is 3x2x2 = Roughly 300 litres. How do you choose your skimmer?

A ) rated at "up to 500 litres"

or

B ) rated at "up to 1,000 litres"

While I concur that there is "no such thing as over-skimming", I also dont want to over-spend...

Please post your views :thanks:

Most skimmers are limited by the technology, size and cost. It's an area where experts and hobbyists alike are forever debating which is better. In a ideal world we have all the space and cash to buy the best.

Perhaps ideally, you can start with the size of tank and what kind of inhabitants you intend to keep first.

Ok, IMO, a berlin system would have to depend on a good skimmer.

There is rarely a case of overskimming, esp in a new tank. And a mixed reef.

There are many types of skimmers available - needlewheel, beckett-types, airstone etc.

You'll have to find one that fits your space and budget. You can grow a refugium for nutrient export. Let me know, I have loads of chaeto to get rid off!
