Thanks for the reply, really appreciate that...regarding the "soft coral and hard coral should not be mixed" I think I was reading a thread somewhere here regarding goniopora...something about it's able to release toxin that can kill rats...in the thread, it mentioned about soft coral releasing toxin to kill hard coral...was trying to trace the thread but can't...may not be in this forum but someother website...

Anyway, that's great...I can go and get some softy for my tanks :eyebrow:

Thanks again for the reply, that's the fantastic thing about this forum for newbies like me.

hmmm i was informed that leather corals and xenias do release such toxins that can stress your hard corals

so watch out for these 2 guys

as for other softies like mushrooms and zoos, their quite harmless :D

happy softies shopping!

Many reefers keep soft & hard corals together. One way to remove the toxin is using granular activated carbon and regular water change.

From what I read from RC, some SPS reefers avoid soft coral as some of the soft coral can attack and suffocate the sps, while some sps are sensitive to soft coral toxin. That is the reason for me to have little or no softies in my tank. ;)

Just observe some space between all your different type of coral species, as they will compete with one another for terrritorial dorminance...such is life. I do mix corals in my tank, but keep them well spaced out, and at different level. (had a few casualties before such as hammer stinging plate corals...!)
