can someone share yr experience using fan to cool down yr tank?

my tank has been at abt 31c and dun think the LS are too happy to me though :( Not sure why also.. :huh:

i know chiller is the best but not an option for me at the moment. Are those 5-in-1 type good? Or another other better ways to cool it down?

:thanks::thanks:

My temp range is 26.5-28.5..... intent to get one more to alternate them . Only prob is water eveaporation rate pretty hi

I bought mine from C328 at $18.. its a 1 huge fan kind.. looks "raw" but effective..

Why do we use "My 2 cents worth" when 1 cents are not legal tender in Singapore anymore? Shouldn't it be 5 cents worth?

Wah! 3ºC??? That's a very effective fan... bro Underwater... u r right, don't just jump into getting a chiller as the chiller will create a new set of problems to the setup. So, try the fan option first... no harm trying out.

But if have budget, go for better quality fans (even DIY if u r good at that). As I just discovered from a reefers home yesterday, he got 2 identical large CPU fan... the China one is very noisy and irritating, the Japanese one is so "damn" quiet... so quality speaks for itself again.

Em... it seems that I am running an "Anti-China" made campaign here... lol.

5 in ones now :lol::lol: (the 5th Row fan not working)

quiet fan not strong

strong fan not quiet

;)

fan is an effective way to bring down temp easily as well as increasing evaporation rate .

not really good for small tank though .

AMAZING RESULTS....From 31c to 28.2c :yeah::yeah::D:D

...........or maybe i'm just "Sua Ku" (mountain tortise) :P

After the advices from bros here, i went to buy an aquarium fan from a wet market lfs for my 5ft tank. It's made from Taiwan, brand Sunon, $24, looks like computer CPU fan but with clips, very quiet and fan speed quite strong.

Now, my leather and bubble look better. Fishes shd be happier now. Now, just hope that this fan can last... :rolleyes:

But water evaporation rate is much faster, at least double. But i avoided warm air and higher electrical bills from using a chiller.

i used that fan b4 for my 2 feet tank .

it is super powerful , similar to profantec fan .

but using it after like 5 months u will heard strange irritaing rotating sound .

but for 24 dollars ... it's a value for money stuff

:)

luckily my chiller is small , CL280, didnt experience electricity bill increase by a lot ... but for bigger chiller like CL650 and above , definately , a lot .

bro hammy, cos your tank volume still quite small mah. wait till you increase to a 4 footer. your bills dun increase i buy you 10 pratas.. haha...

anyway for the fan, its quite subjective. if the ambient air temperature is very high, like around 30-32, fans wun work also. its juz accelerated heating of the water. my hostel room is like an oven in the day, i was using 2 fans on my tank, din do any good. but when night comes, temp becomes lower, my tank temp falls also. there are even raining days when with juz a fan, my temp is at 26. din believe my eyes.

my home tank, which has pretty constant ambient temp in the house 28, is quite well maintained at 28 also.

those sunon is not bad but must be wary of the salt spray, the electrical connection is very "raw" and not insulated, my fan was starting to give me and my water electrical shocks, sometimes when i put my hand into the water i would get a shock !

and the sound is also very irritating, a constant loud "wrrrr" , the blots and nuts also get rusted rather quickly, so currently i am using the ocean free 2 in 1 .. at least i am protected from shocks... :D

electrical consumption wise those cpu type fans are much more efficient, the sunon uses like 30w thereabout, the cpu fans i think less, if can DIY then best B)

I'm using a Jebo 4 in one fan for my 2 footer.. not bad le quiet and yet manage to cool down temp up to 3 deg..lowest temp was 25.8 deg :yeah:

Those Sunon one super good but think too strong for my 2 footer... so this can be an alternative too...

I bought a fan from one of the fish shops next to the old Chinatown market. The smaller shop that sells only fresh water fish. NOT the shop that sells lots of marine fish. The fan is like a minature version of the air curtain that you find above entrances to shopping centres blowing downwards. Very quiet, very strong. I think I paid $30+ for it.

This is the set i bought from a wet market tropical fish shop at $24. Quite strong and not noisy, at least for the past 3 mths. It comes with a metal clip so that you can clip on yr tank edge.
