Any reviews on X-reef Skimmers?

Hey guys...

Was just wondering what's the verdict on X-reefs skimmers. They're currently sold over at Reborn and from the specs it seems pretty good with the line of needlewheel pumps used, tho i must admit the pricing is a lil on the high side for a local made product but i guess they have already mentioned that it's mainly attributed to the high quality needlewheel pumps used in their skimmers.

Anyone has any experience with their skimmers? A review would be great to get a real life, first hand view on these skimmers' performance. Looking at it technically, with the same Aquabee pumps used on deltec skimmers but with a bigger reaction chamber, it would seem that they should be able to take on, possibly outperform a deltec, maybe?

On top of all this, i like the idea that they've incorporated things that isn't currently present in deltecs, like the gatevalve (for more precise water level adjustments) and collection cup drains which seems like big plusses IMO. Again, all these are based on observations of what's been posted, and am quite surprised that no one has posted reviews on these skimmers till now.

So, those who've got these babies runnin on their tanks, care to share a few words/opinions/reviews on these skimmers? It would be greatly appreciated ;)

cheers guys!

96 views and no ones got anything good to say about these skimmers....sounds fishy to me...

How bout those of you who don't own the skimmer share your thoughts as well...might help get this thread going?

Do ya'll feel that it's priced too high? And for the price, you'd rather go with a trusted brand like H&S or Deltecs?

Thanks for the response Tanga....i believe you're right...it is a lil more on the high side pricing wise and for the regular reefers, it doesn't make economical sense to get one....and if one were to consider spending that kinda money, would probably go with a trusted brand like Deltec, HnS etc....

But also in saying that, they do have their benefits. Its just a real chicken and egg situation for them i'm afraid, they need to establish their reputation and some credibility to entice potential buyers (mainly cos of the pricing similarities with more reputed brands) but at the same time, they need more movement of their products (more buyers) to establish this reputation. Either that or have ppl who've bought the skimmers post some reviews *ahem* so that we can atest to the performance of these skimmers.

Perhaps if they were to come up with a smaller model in the sub 5 to 6 hundred range, they might get better responses. Dunno...just my personal opinion.

Yup I would agree with you with smaller model which should be more affordable so that they can accomadate (spelling) for the high and low end user. I guess there should be a few user of this skimmer don't know why no review from them.

So reefers using this skimmer give a review if it's good I don't see why people not supporting local DIyers. :peace:

basically because if pricing and works are basically the same or only slight difference people rather spend the money on a branded.. I mean, if its local shouldn't it be much cheaper since there is no freight and middleman charges.

Not to mention the resale value. Check on buy sell and you can tell brand plays a part.. totally. I have many experiences also. Not selling marine stuff, but electronic stuff. People see brand.. now you know why iPods are so well recieved.

so too bad to local DIYer. Unless they can beat the price or improve the thing. Not many will consider.

Why do we use "My 2 cents worth" when 1 cents are not legal tender in Singapore anymore? Shouldn't it be 5 cents worth?

yupz , i agree on the branding too . tested proven and reputable . dun think deltec would risk their reputation .

just like Singapore Airlines and Tiger Airways . Either the best service or the best value for money stuff wins .

Er.. saw their pricing . i would still buy the branded instead even thought i saw what Xreef skimmer skims .
