Hi guys,

I just bought a new AS-200 macro needlewheel skimmer from Bio-Ocean and i must say the service at bio-ocean is extremely good.

However, I have some problems with my skimmer now. My outlet is producing damn a lot of bubbles making my whole tank full of bubbles as well. I am using the skimmer as a hang on as i do not have a sump. Need advice on how to reduce the bubbles goign into the water, or is this just normal because the skimmer is just being fired up. Please advice. Thanks!!

Cheers

Reefer with lotsa bubbles in his tank :(

Get a betta box at the outlet. Put in sponge.. air from water out will be diffused further before entering the tank/sump.

Why do we use "My 2 cents worth" when 1 cents are not legal tender in Singapore anymore? Shouldn't it be 5 cents worth?

Hehe, thanks brother. Actually the skimmers comes with a box which diffuses the bubbles but then its kinda unsightly having so much stuff in the tank. Oh well, thats the downside if you dont use a sump i guess.

Do you think the micro bubbles will be reduced gradually when the skimmers goes into full drive?

Cheers

Seriously .. no.. I ran it for about 1 month and its still the same. anyway if its reduced also means there is something wrong with the air input.. maybe not enough bubbles. ;)

Do you mean after running the Macro AS200 for 1 mth, there is still lots of bubbles coming out of the outlet? Is this the norm for Macro skimmer?

Oh man, thats not very good. Did the sponge thingy reduce the bubbles significantly?

I ran a weipro previously and at the start there were bubbles coming out too but after about 2 months, it was reduced significantly till there were not bubbles at all so i hope its the same.

Is your macro skimmer hanged on like mine?

Hey bro,

Yeah i think thats what he meant. I think his is a 300 series though. Mine is a AS-200. I read from some other threads that the bubbles coming out of the outlet is only at the start because of the oil in a new skimmer and after it runs for awhile, the skimmer will actually not shoot out so much microbubbles. Do not know if this is true though so maybe someone who has experienced it can say something.

I really hope the macro will stop shooting out the bubbles cause its really unsightly.

Cheers

yeah. its a AS300.. you will notice a slight decrease in air bubbles out but really not enough.

But since mine was in the sump, all I did was add some sponge at the output which helped quite a lot.. BTW mine was without the diffuser thingy...

I see. thats bad man, means my tank is gonna be full of bubbles if thats what you are saying. well i guess i just got to tune the skimmer properly and hope for the best.

Wondering if theres any bros here who used the macro skimmer as a hang on before? Maybe you can give some comments too? thanks!

Cheers

Haha, yeah man. Think my fishes are stressed now. So sad. Hopefully things get better.

Does the micro bubbles affect your corals too?

In a recent poll, there are lots of brothers using Macro skimmer too. Hope they can help...

microbubbles will definately affect the corals a little.. but you did mentioned that you did not use the diffuser. Maybe you should.. they don't provide that for nothing you know.. they learned that from mistake of their older models.

Better look ugly than having stressed out corals.. or customized a smaller better looking diffuser with the sponge from your provided one.

Hey dude,

Its much better now after placing the diffuser. The bio ocean guys delivered it to me yesterday and wow, there's hell of a difference man. Keeping my fingers cross that when i am back from work today, the skimmer would have skimmed a great deal of %#&#^@ hahaha

Cheers and thanks to the bio ocean guys once again :) excellent service

Is the diffuser an optional item or comes with it as a standard?

Air bubbles.

If the skimmer is added to an existing aquarium there may be a high concentration of organic substances already dissolved in the water. This results in very tiny bubbles in the skimmer. These tiny bubbles remove the organic substances effectively, however it may be that some of these bubbles are

drawn back into the aquarium. After a few days, the concentration of organic substances will have decreased to such low levels that this effect will have gone and the water flow is free of air bubbles.

Hey guys,

Just to update, after using the diffuser, the micro bubbles coming out are like negligible so everything is working fine now!

Cheers

Which diffuser box did you use ? The one that came bundled with the set or you had to buy separately ?

Also, a fellow reefer in another board pointed out that if you move by 2'o clock the position of the air outlet on the return pipe before it hits the diffuser you can help control the way bubbles are managed...

Hey bro,

My situation is quite special because i took the display set. So when i went back i checked on the net and realised theres supposed to be a diffuser box. I called the guys up at bio-ocean and they readily sent it to me. Great service i must say.

I dont quite understnad what you meant about the 2-o clock thingy you just said, so maybe you can elaborate on that because i am still experiencing little micro bubbles from the outlet though its quite negligible i must say. :)

Cheers
