Are suncorals under cites?

Hi there.

I'm just checking to see if suncorals are under cites protection. (www.cites.org).

I went to the website to check and found that it is not listed.

BUT I also checked for L46 (zebra pleco) which my fren have been telling me since day 1 that it is under cites.

I searched under "fishes" in the word document and could not find it either as "L46". "zebra pleco" or "Hypancistrus Zebra" (http://www.zebrapleco.com/)

So who is right and who is wrong?

At the end of the day I just want to know if I can bring suncorals back from indonesia without accidentally breaking any laws

Huh... I believe any livestocks need to go through AVA.. esp corals will need some sorta license. Even LRs need license, I bet Sun corals are the same..

If you are just bringing in for pleasure and hobby sake, why not just buy it off LFSs here?

Well, the price alone is a major difference between Sg LFS and Indon LFS.

Sun corals, and all other hard corals, are under CITES. The exact species is not stated but they are under SCLERACTINIA spp

Zebra plecos are not under CITES! The shop trying to con you so can sell more ex

L46 Zebra Pleco is not under cites but a restriction by the Brazilian Govt for export. Con or no con, it's a matter of demand and supply.

On the sidenote; suncorals are banned? But its all over the place here in Jakarta.

Suncorals are not banned. They are plentiful in the sea.

On the contrary, suncorals are not expensive. Unless you are buying one with >50 polys. Go look under the jetty and you may find it for free.

Sun coral is the hard type right? I thought all hard coral are banned?

I emailed AVA to get a confirmation last wednesday but yet to get a reply

If suncorals are banned then its really weird coz I can buy them from Singapore too.
