Can i put in LRs?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering izzit okie to put in more LRs into my tank during the cycle.

Currently my ammonia level droped to acceptable level but NO2 is quite high (forget the value). Not tested the NO3 yet cause going to buy the test kit today.

I alrady have 4 pieces of LRs in my 2ft tank and plan to add in another 2-3 LRs.

Izzit okie i add them now or do i have to wait for few more days? If i have to wait, when is the best time for me to add in the LRs - (Untill all param at okie level?)

Thanks.

As long as u do not have any livestock in your tank, its ok. Especially when u are in your cycling period now, u should put in all the LRs that u need now and not when your tank is fully cycled and have LS. The cycling period will just be extended for a short period.

Cheers :)

I don't see any problem, since u're still in the cycling period. :D

if u are using it for the cycling period doesnt have to be cured. if u want to add liverockinto an already established tank its not recommended to add in too much uncured LR at 1 go (or possibly not at all) . as the dieoffs can spark another mini cycle

Cured live rock means the rock has been put through the curing process fully. All dying organisms are gone.

It is ready for a stocked tank. If you buy fully cured live rock from a local store, you can safely add it to a stocked and established tank. It may still cause a slight ammonia spike but the spike will be short-lived and minor.

If the rock is uncured..u gotta cure it first. Easy way to do it: Dip it into, say a bucket or another tank having the same parameters as your tank, for 2 weeks or more. Don't change the water. After 2 weeks test for ammonia, nitrite. If undetectable it is cured. Else, wait a few more days...

hmm i duno about that..not that good in this haha

but i heard abt CULTURED and UNCULTURED live rock..

UNCULTURED live rock are the ones u pick off oceans

CULTURED ones seem to be made like how u described it i guess..but if u ask me that will take a real long time

R*****W at serangoon sells uncultered at $25/kg i think that is killer price wonder if anyone ever buys em...

psb at far east have.. go check them out..

pls ensure your LR if get from there is "cured" b4 putting in your tank.

I din once (as I thought I will be advised if the LR is cured, base on my frequent dealing with them) , add 3kgs into my 3ft tank. 50% fishes die.

the liverocks there are nor cured!!! unless if its in the tank where he put more than a week cause he bring in every week.. and everytime comes in syrofoam box.. u should put in the liverocks.. before u add livestocks..

during cycling that will solve the prob.
