Height of skimmer

I intend to get a needle wheel skimmer and will like to place it outside the sump. If the placement of the skimmer is higher than the water level in the sump, will it affect the performance of the skimmer? Is there any way to work around this?

Pls advise!

how high you want to place your skimmer? .. I believe abit higher than water level should pose a performance issue. but of course not all the way up..

Actually, I'm thinking of 2 ways, one is to place inside the sump but using the egg crats with PVC pipe to act as the base to raise the height! Me abit fussy as I dun really like to place the skimmer into the sump as I find it difficult to maintain!

The other way is to place abt 1 metre above my sump cos my tank is spilt into 2 deck!
