Flame Angel

Taken from LiveAquaria:

It requires the minimum of a 30 gallon tank with lots of hiding places and live rock for grazing. The Flame Angelfish is prone to nip at stony and soft corals (sessile invertebrates) and clam mantles. If the Flame Angelfish is to be added to a peaceful community, it should be the last fish introduced. They adapt well to aquarium life, but should be kept in an established system and housed with dissimilar genera. Flame Angels are very sensitive to elevated levels of copper, and should never be exposed to levels near or above .15.

They might nip on corals but many reefers here have been successful in keeping them with corals...i'll say its 50/50. Anyway, lots of questions have been aske dabout this....try do a search. Im sure you'll find something. For myself, i don't dare to set 1 free in my tank....

hi all,

was thinking of getting a flame angel....

but read some where that its not reef safe...is it true?

also its agressive to fish of its own kind...wat abt other species of fishes?

thanks for all info

Its a 50/50. My flame angel nips at pratas and monti polyps only, other LPS like blastos,lobo.. He will not touch.

As for the aggression of the fish, he will tend to chase after my clownfish pair and my RG once they have each in sight But so far no serious damage caused.

hmmm...then is there any of the angel family that is reef frenly?

The Coral Beauty is a slightly more easier fish and reef safer also.

But its not popular due to its appearance. Read up more more this fish though.
