I went to Chiropractic First at United Square.

Went there to relieve my backache. The result is OK but need to have several treatment before seeing results.

As mine is a insurance claim, was advised by the lawyer to seek 'recognised' treatment from Orthopathic instead.

On your first visit, you need to fill up questionaire, talk to the Chiropractor and let him feel and touch you.

After that he will reccomend the number of session you need.

Most session are below S$100.

You may also purchase a package in order to enjoy savings. Package usiang starts from S$800.

Chiropractic First periodically will conduct road shows in shopping centres to attract customers, last week saw them at Parkway Parade.

Found it a waste of money. $80 for a 60 second session. They try to sign you up for long term treatment and tell you a lot of bull about what is wrong.

Go see an Orthopaedic specialist and let them make the best suggestion depending on your condition.

No offense bro, but I went to Orthopaedic after Chiropractor and I dun find there is any better treatment.

The so called Ortho Specialist I went to is in Gleneagles, the bills ended up much more than Chiro. But guess what he recommend? Physio....

After spending so much, he told me to do some exercise???!!!!

The only reason why I still go back to the Ortho is because their reports carries weight on my insurance claim. :o

I am not against Ortho but just felt that we should not condemn Chiro just because they are not recognized here. :D

Peace. :peace:

The Chiropractor will start working with you after a detailed X-ray have been conducted.

I felt some aches on the first few treatment which he have warned me before we started.

Afterwhich, I dun have that much problem with my back.

I did not complete the course due to the fact that it did not help with my claims.

Thus, upon the advises of my lawayer, I went for Orthopaedic.

The Ortho send me for X-ray again and have the same findings as the Chiro.

But he recommend Physio instead.

I dun quite like the idea of Physio, cuz they just teaches you to avoid the muscle that is giving you pain. To me, that is not treatment.

Just my humble experience.

I was knock from behind in a car accident. That causes me to have back and neck aches.

After the event, I went to TTSH for observation but found nothing. Report state that all is fine, just some muscle contusion.

The pain did not subside after 8mths. decides to go to Chiro. More detailed X-ray were requested. Found that the tissue of my neck have de-generated thus the cause of my pain.

I can remember exactly liao. But I think if you take up treatment, your first consultation is waive or something.

do they go into manipulation directly, or do they get a masseuse to soften your muscles first?

X-ray first.

But they will feel feel and touch touch you on the first consultation so that they can better know your condition.

The detailed recommended by Chiro is around S$200. X-ray is taken in AsiaMedic.

Bring your MRI and reports along, you may not need to take X-ray.

No problem to let a Chiro treat your back a few times. Suggest you think carefully before letting him loose with his hands around your neck. Do an internet search about the risks first.

For some people who have back problems, Chiro may work, but it is manipulation of the bone not the muscles.

You may also consider an oesteopath which as far as i can see combines some physio/chiro.

With respect regarding physio, this treats the source by gentle manipulation, regaining the movement etc. Its proven stuff, not an overnight fix.

If the disc is badley damaged, bulging and impinging a nerve, the MRI will show this and an orthopedic specialist will be able to advise a suitable course of treatment. Chiro is not the best course of action here.

Be careful, i know after 2 spinal(neck) fusion operations.

Now i have a lower back problem, i gave First chiro a chance. They took an x-ray, told me its subluxations(what!!!) and a course of $$$$$$$$ will solve the problem. I tried a few times, max manipulation was 60 sec - oh, thats enough for today, come back in 2 days and pay another $80 please.

I got more relief from a chinese massage shop(the type that massages the feet etc etc and not other parts!) and streching excerises.

Hi,

Physio and Chiro have different philosophy. from my undertanding, Chiro's philosophy is based on the "subluxation" theory, ie., if you have neck/back pain, asthma, baby colic...the problem is the "sublux" spinal joint. However, it may not be true most of the time....

I have to agree that the chiro have good hands-on. However, Physios, Osteopath and may be the TCM (chinese physician) equally have the hands-on skills too.

Physios based their treatment on the verbal/physical findings, normally combine with X-ray as well. The treatment can be exercises, hands-on (manipulation/joint mobilisation), advises or a combination of all of them depending on the assessment.

manipulation is out of the question most of the time if you have a slipped discs. Hands-on can still be applied to other joints if they are too stiff.

if the client for have eg., whiplash after car accident, he will have a very painful neck or back with stiff joints, tight/sore muscles. manipulation will not help but gradual mobilisation of the joints, relaxing the muscles will be treatment of choice. At a later stage if the initial inflammation has settled, and the joints is still too stiff, then manipualtion (may cos joint arthritic changes), or gentle joint mob (prefered choice) is indicated and execises to improve the strength/control to prevent future injury.

The above is just an example and may not be the standard treatment approach as each individual is different.

Hope it will clear the perception of physios only teach exs.

regards,

Check out some internet searches for lower back pain. lots of info and advice available, its helpful in understanding what is going on. As Gouldion says, everyone has thier own preference. Surgery should be the last resort
