Chiller inseparable from MH?

My tank in normal day without a chiller and light is already 30degC, I think I can have cooked corals and fishes if I run my MH without a chiller...

am running a 150w MH without chiller for my 15g tank but inorder to keep temp below 29c i run 3pc ac fan directed at my tank , need to topup daily 1gal water.

it is not impossible but walking on thin line.

I"m also running 150W MH without chiller for my 22G tank. I have fans blowing at the water surface in both my tank and sump. So far, temperature has been below 28c.

It depends on ambient temperature, ventilation, wattage of bulb and water temperature you are trying to acheive.

In the case of 250W MH but trying to get 26­­°C water in Singapore weather, you'll definitely need a chiller.

As Tanzy has replied.... if you want a long-term stable and happy reef, and you have equipment that adds heat into your tank, and you can't provide ample and consistent cooling... then a chiller is the ONLY equipment that can help you attain a consistent cool water environment... fans have their limits, ice-in-bottles-in-sump is impractical and can actually induce stress.

Unless you move your tank and house into temperature countries and use a heater instead to warm up your water!

That's a reason why this hobby can be expensive for a lot of people... equipment investment.
