hammer coral

Recommended Posts

Guys,

I just acquired a hammer coral 2 days ago.

It has 4 main "branches". 3 of the 4 branches are doing alrite...but the last one isn't. The hammerhead refuses to come out and worst still, it is constanly producing slimy stuffs.

When i first introduce the coral, the nitrate level was at 5mg/l with zero ammonia and nitrite. Temp was ard 27 degree.

For the last two days, it remaiined like that. I tot it might be the circulation, so i increased it a bit more over it. But no changes.

Then i just measured the nitrate level and it rose to 15mg/l but ammonia remains at 0mg/l.

Any advise on wat i shd do?

Anyway, i also have a frogspawn inside which is doing well.

Thanksss....

benson

Try to separate that tissue from the rest of the branches...if not it might spread.

Could be the dreaded brown jelly disease.

You might wanna consider using a big pair of pliers to trim off the decaying branch.

Always something more important than fish.

just bring it out and snip away the branch.

some do recommend lugol's dip after that but my hammers survived that unskilled operation i performed.

just a note. remember to rinse the chopped branch with a little tank water to prevent skeleton bits entering the tank.

Actually it may not be Brown Jelly disease...

Is the branched totally covered by brown slimy stuff or is the branch producing strands of filamentrous looking brown slime?

If its the former, its brown jelly, but if its the latter, its either tha your hammer is expelling zooxanthellae due to stress, insufficient lighting etc etc or it may just be expelling undigested food if it just had a large meal of eg brine shrimps.
