By the way, almost all documented Pseudochromis are rated as semi-agressive and must be house in at least a 30g tank. But they're a view to look at if you have larger fish in the tank (NO GOBBIES, pls) They're a hardworking fellas too, will clear your tank of pest like bristleworms and crabs.

Use to own 1 pair of fridman's Pseudochromis aka Orchid dottybacks before my tank crash. I can spend a huge amount of time in front of the tank just to see the fella duck in and out of the LRs or under the Corals.

Yaya, this guy duck in and out and generally shy to other bigger/faster fishes. Normally mind his own business.

BUT when you introduce some rock dwellers, he becomes aggressive, bcos it is of course territorrial and more competition for food piss him off.

This idea is the same for most fishes even vegie tangs.

Equipment:

30G Corner Tank with 10G Sump, 2 x 24W artinic T5, 1 x 24W 10K, 1x 24W 20K, 3" Grade 0 sand & Live rocks, Activated Carbon, Bio-home, 2 x Seio M620, Hailea 1/2HP Chiller, Redsea Pro Skimmer

Live Stock:

Turbo Snail x 1, Green Mandarin Dragonet X 2, Blue Tang X 2, True percular x 2, 1 x Algae Bleenie, Clarke clown x 2

Reef:

1 x 2" Blue maxima, Red/Brown/Purple Mushroom (Discosoma), Pink Ricordea yuma, A little colony Brown/Green common Zoanthus, Red/Pink/Green US Zoanthus, Eagle-eye Zoathus, 14 Branch Goniopora Pandoraensis, 1 Starburst Polyps, 3 + 2 Branch Frogspawn, 4 Blasto, palythoa, Cheato

RIPs (Since June 2005):

1. Sabae clown (KO by Clarke clown) 2. 1 branch melted frogspawn 4 branch 3. Golden maxima (Ripe the base off rock by me) 4. Algae Bleenie x 2 (Starvation) 5. Blue Maxima x 1, 2 x Maxima, 1 x frogspawn, rics (Overtemp...)

This is David's terror

Pseudochromis paccagnellae aka Royal dottyback

pseudochromis_paccagnellae_royal_dottyba

Argh!!!!..Terror terror!!! . So pleased to have him removed. Since i have added this bugger to my tank, whenever i will to see ppl buying this fish, i will give the buyer my piece of advice. Its "too nice" to have in the tank!!

As for the orchid dottyback, i was told that its a well behaved fish.. Dont know true a not? A bit phobia over dottybacks...

True, ALL LS are territorrial but if you want you can do the HK style.

Less LRs, less agressive= Less Natural looking, Less type of LS to buy, No need to spend money on Corals. But in SG, we are trying to re-create the natural looking tank thus we'll buy Corals and LRs etc. :(

semi aggresive doesnt sound much, but from what i heard, the royal dottyback is one of the most aggressive among the dottybacks

plus, i think most ppl buy royal dottybacks due to the cheaper cost and very nice coloration, now i would rather get the RG instead

Right on, bro.

Get RG or BRG. Alot nicer but lesser headache but more $ lah.

Picture of the RG in the wild.

Bro,

Next time RTN the fella, coz SG pipe system doesn't link to Ocean. :P

hondaker,

BRG is more agressive than RG. In terms of colouration, BRG is less vivd than RG. RG wasn't documented to be seen in other areas except theses.

Western Central Atlantic: Bermuda, Bahamas, and Central America to northern South America.
