How to treat ich (white spot) infected fishes?

Hi all,

I have read many articles that advocates the removal of all fishes in the main tank and treat the fishes with medication such as copper or using hyposalinity in a separate hospital tank?

With all the live rocks in the tank, it is impossible to catch the fishes unless the rocks are first removed (massive work).

Have anyone succeeded in treating their ich infected fishes without removing them

from the main tank?

Hrmz, i have problems with ich too and heard that having a UV light might help abit...any reeefers got any experience with that?

No other way. Without going fishless, there are bound to be traces of ick left. Even if you don't see it, it just means that it's either at the dormant stage, or yr fishes had already gain some immunity from them.

You could probably reduce the "concentration" by using UV or ozone.

Just my opinions.

Go for the best one u that you can afford. UV can't really "leak", so overrated is safe. Try not to switch on the UV at intervals... it'll just reduce the life-span of the tube.

you can soak your food you feed to your fishes with garlic juice...helps alot too

Am feeding them with garlic soaked food now...maybe will get a UV light tomorrow...thanks everyone!

I soaked my feed with Kent garlic extreme and Vitamin C. The white spots on my fish reduce significantly the day after I spotted them. Hope it is not a case of them turning into tomonts. Will get a UV. Any idea where to get one at reasonable price?

IMO, doctor fish (Cleaner Common Wrasse, Labroides dimidiatus) are hard to keep.

altough the cleaner wrasse do help to remove the parasite from the fishes, it is not advisble to add in the wrasse into your tank as a ich remedy when there is already an ich outbreak. The wrasse might also be infected.

However the cleaner wrasse is a nice to have fish, but you got to choose a good feeding specimen. I got one and with me for more than 4mths, feeding on mysis and also the parasitie/ or dead skin from the fish.
