INtroducing fish, and invertebrates

Hey guys,

I tried searching the forums to see if there was a "best" way to introduce fish into the tank. For example, some suggest floating hte plastic bag, or dripping water from the main tank into the bag. Some also say cannot use nets, while others pour everything intoa holding container first.

basically, i'm a little confused as to the best way... Do you quarantine? For how long? What's in the tank? How'd you get it feeding? Do you make sure it's feeding before you release it into your tank?

How about inverts- corals, shrimp etc? any special way?

Ok. I know it's a lot of questions, but i'm hoping they will give you a rough idea of what i'm unsure of. Thanks!!!

What i do usually will be to float the bag in my sump for about 10mins. Then slowly add my tank water to the bag. Then i will release the new LS in a betta box in my tank, adding minimum water from the bag. I will keep my newly introduced LS in the betta box for ard 2-3 days, monitoring and trying to get it to feed.

For inverts and corals. I will just perform the acclimatization and then put the corals into mt tank without adding any water from the bag

Its better to have a quarantine tank(QT) for new fishes. Cos you will never know wat dieases or parasites the new fishes are carrying. Observation can be made in the QT.

Usually the quarantine period is abt 2 to 3 weeks the min. Given the time, any illness or parasities would have shown itsels already and proper medication can be used. eg copper which can 't be used in a reef tank. Usually all the medication which are not reef safe are the most effective.

Getting the fish to feed in the QT is easier as there is not competition.

the set up for the QT should be simple. all you need is a pump\filter and a few PVC for the new to hide when they are stress. No need to put in sand rock etc cos the tank is only temperory

ok, if i set up a quarantine, which are the most important factors/water parameters that i need to keep the same? or, do i just leave them in the quarantine, and then introduce them like described above? ie. put in a little water from main tank at a time, then finally introduce?

Its very important to observe and check the fish before buying. Sometimes i was even allowed to test feed the fish to check its stability. so far my mentioned method has never experienced any disease wipeout
