boxing shrimp

Hi!

I just bought a tiny purple boxing shrimp, around 2cm (body) to add my crusty collection.

Very fierce guy, already attacked and snap off my cleaner shrimp's "antenna"!!

are they that aggressive? every time , my fish swims near him, he seem to reach out his claw to nip at the fish!!

giving me heart attack...

tsk tsk...yes...boxing shrimps are very aggressive...next time read up on what you buy first...but if i remember correctly, the purple boxing shrimp is the type that is rarer and less common?

so perhaps its worth keeping!

Hrmz, i seem to see more of the purple varient than the common ones recently. Boxers have a history of aggression especially when they get larger. There are cases of reefers encountering peaceful ones too, so guess its a touch and go. As long as your other tank inhibants are bigger than it, i guess its ok.

yah hopefully mine is the peaceful type.. i have seen quite a few tanks w boxers and tangs living together! the boxer are somemore those big big one! big claws!!

I've got a pair of blue legged boxers that's quite peaceful leh .. lives in a cave with my electric flame scallop.. never even bother my cleaner .. but I find alot of crab shells near them .. so I think they tearing apart the @#)$@ crabs in my tank

BTW .. think the female is near to spawning

some feedback it is not safe, attacking their anemone, small fishes & even mushies?!!

I think I will be letting this guy go if I can catch him!

Hmmm..purple boxer = Stenopus tenuirostris? If so it's actually one of the smallest species of boxing shrimp and actually quite peaceful. I have kept one with 1-2cm gobies before without much problems. Sometimes aggression is linked to lack of territory, could be the case if your tank is quite small or the stocking density is quite high.

wish I can get it from you .. but if the boxers are not paired .. they'll fight until they die

Yes .. how big is your tank ?? and how many hiding places ?? all my shrimps find a favorite spot and chill liao .. they well water don't mix with river water

4 days liaoz since introducing the boxer into my 2 feet by 1 feet tank

my purple boxer now residue in a cave with my clown?? so far so good.

other shrimps like my sexys and cleaner roam around the tank!

just hope my cleaner and purple don't cross path in their small world!
