SRC Member Qxnviolet Posted February 12, 2006 SRC Member Share Posted February 12, 2006 Hrmz, heard some reefers avocate leaving the tank fishless for around 8 weeks. This will ensure that your tank is ich free. Not sure if changing water will help. Terryz_
Best to leave your tank fishes for 2 months... The longer the better... It will ensure that the free swimming ich will dead off when it does not have any fish to host and to make sure that the ich will finish it lifecycle... They eventually die offf without any fish to host on to. Quote Member of:

SRC Member wil_lee76 Posted February 13, 2006 SRC Member Share Posted February 13, 2006 Personally, IMO/E leaving the tank empty without ich prone fishes is a good way, the duartion can be as long as few months. If you patience enough, Normaly wthis is how i do to prevent occuarnces of ich:- (1) Set a QT tank for all newly arrived fishes. Adminstrator your dosing of ICH away addtivies. (if you believe in it) OR uses HYPO methods. Rem, I prefer not to dose ich removal addtivies in main tank even the instructions mentioned "it will not affect corals" (2) make sure all the fishes are fed and uses garlic as part of the diet. IT works for me! (3) Release the fishes to the main tank and make sure that no others fishes clashes with the current one. Sometimes, Ich are caused by stress. (4) ON UV during the night for about 5-6 hours daily. (or alt) Does it works? IM not sure...but some reefers does these! (5)Lastly, sit there and enjoy! Hope these helps!
