Modification to run external pump

Hi all ..

Thinking of moving my ehiem pump to run as a external pump rather than submerge in the sump. Can I get away from drilling hole in the sump and just use normal pvc pipe with elbow to connect back to sump and suck water (after I put some water in the pipe for the first run) ?

Possible ?

yeah sure it's possible.. i do that for my haliea pump as well... jsut that you will lose some head because of all the elbows...

I got the setup from RC but cant get the link. So I draw out the piping.

I am using this for my skimmer with Rio14HF for ~ 1 + month, so far it perform good. Even if the pump off and on, it will restart the sifon again.

First you will get some microbubble then later it will run smooth after clear all the air in the PVC pipe.

One thing, have to make sure the joint in tight so it wouldnt get the venturi effect and create microbubble in you tank.

Forgot to put the steps.

1) Open the cap, then fill up the piping until water level. You cant fill up until top as the water will run out into tank/sump.

2) Closed the cap, make sure its air tight.

3) start the pump

thank for the drawing. Yes, that's what I intented to do .... Maybe I will use a bigger pipe to minimise head lost.
