Greetings from Canada,

Found out about your site accidentally while searching for a skimmer....anyways I would like to know more details about where, how and what kind of quality/grade/size and pricing do you get for your Clams?

Do you get them aquacultured locally or are they from your neighbouring countries. Maybe if you could include some pix that'd greatly appreciated.

Thank you all. :thanks:

This is for Roidan...

Holy smoke.... are those all your Clams in your collection tank and you mentioned that you have another collection of Clams as well stashed in a secret room?

Are you propagating them for future sale? Man I'd be very ineterested if I know I can bring it back to Canada the next time I visit you folks....Ooohhhhhh.

Most excellent man!!

Mapleleaf...we are quite spoiled in Singapore - there are lots of LFS and many of them import and re-export, so most items are readily available. Most of us have a clam or two (or in Riodin's case 20 or 30...lol). The price is also very low comparing with North America or Australasia - good clams can be got for SGD$20-25.

I don't think that very much of what is sold in Singapore (fish or invertibrates) is aquacultured locally - it's all too readily available from the surrounding countries.

Real reefs don't have glass bottoms....(...think about it)

Hey Ian,

Thanks for the info link. Will be checking on it soon...didn't realised that you have a Reef Club.

Reason being is I was in Singapore last summer in July...missed the chance to check out your local Reefers.....

Thanks again. :D

You can always get another chance of popping by singapore anytime. :D

clams nowadays are hard to come by ...i would not know why too...for the past 6months, the clam industry in singapore only comes in nice pieces but not the ultra Grade which will cost u a bomb..

Hey May&Bruce,

For that kind of pricing I would buy Clams in boxes!! That's a darn good price but are they for specific Clams only. For $20 - 30 bux I could probably get a Electric Scallop....as Clams here are not cheap even for a small 2.5 - 3 inches Maxima Clam.

Do you get any true Oscellaris Black Clowns from Australia in Singapore?

Thanks for the info. :yeah:

I have never seen true Oscellaris Black Clowns from Aust in SG... But a LFS might bring in if there are enough demand... It is about sgd 80-90 per pc if i never remember wrongly...

Hey Giantbicycle,

I don't mind visiting Singapore again...clean city and delicious food..mmmmm Yummy.

Now when you say it'll cost u a bomb for a Ultra Grade clam how much would you think that'll cost you? I know for a fact that the Derasa are the cheapest as a starter clam over here but other than that the starting price for a Maxima usually starts at CDN$70 to over $100 minimum depending on it's color and size.

Our Canadian LFS prices are cheaper than the Americans when you're talking about livestocks but for the Dry goods it's cheaper in the States though. Weird but true...

By the way do you still use heaters for your tanks and I understand that Metal Halide lights are too much for heat problems?

Thanks.

heaters in SG? Most of us need chillers!

You would laugh at how cheap some of our LS is, compared with the US and Australasia. Cleaner shrimps for SGD$10 here - SGD$90 in Australia!

Real reefs don't have glass bottoms....(...think about it)

Cleaner shrimp for SGD$10 bux...oh man I think my buddies are going to jump off the Niagara Falls very soon! They cost somewhere from CDN$20 - 25 each maybe $15 on Boxing Day sale. The Fire/Blood shrimps are like $45 each...oouuchh. I was fortunate to pick up a BullsEye Pistol Shrimp for $30 which is the same one on the left side of your window..(Reefkeeping Magazine) and it has been with me for the last two years.

Our weather here is so extreme..one day is warm and the next thing you know it's Minus freezing all of a sudden...it's Minus 12?C right now. So heaters during winter and chillers during summer and we're fortunate that the hydro/electricity bills are pretty cheap compared to other countries. Some of us Reefers have from 4 to 6 400W Metal Halide light system running for our SPS tanks with VHO or T5 bulbs as well..

Do you get any Florida Ricordeas from the States? They're very nice in coloration plus expensive too! They're kinda like Mushrooms except it's very colorful and very different and I guess you must have seen this before.

Cheers

Ricordia Florida are quite common last time but now i think due to some restriction and the condition of stock that arrived... Now it is uncommon and considered rare already... But there are some fellow reefers fragging themselves and selling them...:fear:

It is ard sgd 25 per polyp but now it could fetch up to $40 per polyps...

TerryZ,

Usually it's priced at $25 per polyp over here and one of our LFS drove down to Florida last week and he'll be bringing back at least 1000 pieces of Ricordeas this weekend probably. The last time he'd sold them for $15 each which was very cheap back then. And that was two years ago and nobody wanted it....now it's the hottest item around due to it's coloration and ease of care.

Thanks.

Hey giantbicycle,

In regards to visiting S'pore...in fact I was there visiting my sister & family last July and it was for a short couple days. However we're thinking about another trip to S'pore and this time we're hopiing for a longer stay to enjoy it. Sometime in 2007 or 2008 probably.......?????

And hopefully to get to know or meet some of the local Reefers as yourself, for instance, and maybe learn something new instead...who knows right? There's always somehing new to learn especially in this hobby!!

Thank you all for sharing and hope to talk and share more about this hobby. Keep on Reefing dudes and dudettes!! :peace:
