Your top priority now is to upgrade your skimmer. As it is, for a 2ft tank, your bioload is quite high (i.e. you have alot of fishes). I am surprised that your clown is still surviving in a Nitrate 50ppm tank. Clowns are usually intolerant of high nitrates.

3 points to note:

1. To upgrade skimmer ( that u already mentioned tat will be upgraded, Great, as u got high bioload there)

2. Wat wavemaker u using? OR wat rtn pump u using? The sand bed level seems to be blown by strong current and is not level....

3. Coral chips will be a build up for nitrate, and soon time bomb for ur tank. Nowadays, many reefers here have do away with coral chips , bio rings and bio balls. All will contribute to a nitrate factory. Idealy is to remove the chips and rings and do water change like 10-20 % weekly. May this helps bring down the nitrate level :look:

clownfish belong to a special type of damsel and i think they are able to tolerate a greal deal of nitrate more than other such as those in the anthias family .

yes , upgrade ur skimmer is a wise choice and in time to come , ur coral chip might accumulate debris and cause nitrate boom.

I agree with fellow reefers' view. coral chips can trap a lot, alot alot of dirt and when not treated, nitrate bomb can happen. Also in my opionion, always excellent to upgrade the skimmer to better one to better handle the water.

Really? I read in a few websites/books (can't remember which) that state they are quite intolerant of high nitrates. Must try to dig up those references now. :P

thks fellow reefers...

i had taken out the biosand replace wif more chips. LFS told me chips will be fine... as fot the bios, i put it on the top tank where the surface down flow is.

the sandbed level was done by my sand goby... keep digging out sand and make itself a 5 rm unit. :P . i'm using a dolphin P-2500, no wavemaker.... :nc:

if i take out the chips and rings, wat shld i replace wif?

pls advise reefers.... :paiseh:

hi aftermath, is this necessary? From what i see it creates a massive” water fall" in which result a lot of unwanted bubbles.....i bet u don’t want any of them (micro bubbles) entering our main tank. best result is for u to remove the "thinky"(the one in the circle.

Just my 0.2cent.

thks bro,

i was worried abt the bubbles entering into the main tank too. thats why i had a pic of filter media in the place where the water is coming down...

i thought this will reduced the amount of bubbles going in. Still i encounter bubbles in the main tank at times... then i try increase the water level near to the rim....still in vain.

i believe ur idea make quite a sense there. i'm breaking that piece out of the way.

thks man :D
