Not expecting instant miracles.. since there's no seeding .. I guess I need probably another 2-3 weeks for the effects to show ..

CKS .. my DSB is in a pail .. probably 20 over inches deep

something similar to a FR .. but pailsized ..

NO3 test kits are very unreliable - salifert seems the best (most accurate) brand.

IMO it could take 6-9 months or more for the nitrate-reducing effect of a DSB to take effect. But keep at it - many peopl are anit DSB, but remember the real ocean has a HUGE DSB :D

Real reefs don't have glass bottoms....(...think about it)

I'm using a remote system .. where the sandbed is like 14" deep

seems like the effects has kicked started .. 2 weeks no change of water .. and NO3 at 20ppm (tropical marine test kit)

Feeding everyday ..

I dump in some glucose .. the water no longer turn milky :P

downside is PO4 super high <_<

now running a second bag of Rowa .. hmm .. maybe my 1st bag exhausted liao ..

yep already matured and done liao..

constant 20ppm tropic marine..

the spike happened at week 2 and it dropped from there.. lost 3 anthias and 1 brown tang :cry2:

I feed everyday and based on previous experience, I have to change water every 1 to 1.5 weeks otherwise no3 goes above 50ppm and my gonio will not extend..

now already 1 month never change water liao :P

7th week.. tropical marine test kit..

quite constant at 20ppm

not increasing..

note this is daily feeding schedule.. 20+fishes ..2 poo machines :)

btw no change of water for 7 weeks

waiting for it to drop to lower though.. maybe greedy :P

just be careful of nitrate spike during the 3rd week or so.. no bacteria yet/not enough to remove the nitrate.. and this sudden spike can cause havoc on your corals and ls

It works VERY well..

I changed to internal sump DSB since then .. doesn't work as well as the sandbed in a pail :(

Flood feed the fishes everyday (due some shy fishes) WITH some algae in the sump and yet the nitrate hovers around 50ppm ..

I guess the remote was still best so far ..

Anytime :D

Concept is taken from Reefcentral .. Anthony Calfo I think ..

I used a Coral Life salt container and filled it up to 2/3rds full with sand ..

I used a 1500LPH pump to circulate the water from the sump to the tank .. thats it !!

Jervis, Yes .. I like to see your office tank too !! :yeah:
