nitrate level - 10ppm

Recommended Posts

Is this level normal... ? any advice to reduce to less than 05ppm ?

Tap water also contain nitrate... how about boiled water, does it kill all the bacteria ?

What about any products that i can use to use to reduce nitrate level ?

Any advice will be deeply appreciated.

...there has been quite a few threads in this lately. Singapore tap water has about 5ppm nitrate in it so if you are usuing untreated tap water then you will never get below 5ppm.

You can get a RO and/or DI water filter system to remove all of the nitrate from your tap water beofre using the tap water for make-up ater or for mixing salt. This, coulped with regular water changes, should keep nitrates low.

BTW, nitrate levels up to 20 or so are really not a problem.

Real reefs don't have glass bottoms....(...think about it)

Thanks... DI mean that need to boil the water before i mix with salt ?

Reason to reduce nitrate level to 05ppm or less also able to reduce the growth of algae.

I want to stop the growth of algae rather than getting fishes and invertebrate to clear it for me... Mine a small tank, i try not to overcrowd my tank.

I have a similar equipment... don't know that qualify to be a DI system.

Is a "national" brand, it have a bottle connected to the system with a tube and a device to our normal tap. You can turn to "filtrate mode" or "non-filtrate mode". filtrate mode will come from the bottle tube, non friltrate mode will come from normal tap water.

Currently, i am using the filtrate mode for change of water ? don't know whether is it effective or not ?
