Maintaining kH

hi

The kH of my fish tank drop by 0.2kH per day. Is it ok for me to use top up water and fill the water with the Seachem ph8.3 buffer? i found that i can increase the kH with the ph8.3 buffer while maintaining the ph at 8.3. If i fill the correct amount of pH buffer in the top up water, can i use this method it to maintain the kH?

I will be going oversea for 2 weeks. Will the effectiveness of the buffer reduce with time?

thanks

is 0.2dkH very fast? what should be the normal rate?

what do you mean by "saltmix"? I'm using coralife salt. Is this the "saltmix" you talking about?

i believe dkh drop how fast depends on the intake from your corals or coralline algae etc...i doubt there is a "normally drop how fast" thing

different tanks should be different...i believe alvin's kh stability is due to lack of kh absorbing organisms

mine drops 2-3dkh a week, that's 0.3-0.4 a day

no problems so far for a yr already

i personally prefer to use seachem reef builder (POWDER FORM, not the liquid bottle) becos of the precise adjustments i can make to my water, if i remember it correctly, 1TS per 100L will raise your dkh by 1.

so in your case, you can simply dose and adjust everyday or everyweek depending on your preference

you can also try kalkwasser, however, again my personal preference and favourite is still seachem reef builder

I think you can. But the problem is, you cannot just top up reef builder with out dosing Calcium with the same proportion. Otherwise, you will soon find yourself having ionic imbalance in your tank. Coz Kh and Cal have to have balance proportion.

Also, it is not recommended to mix reef builder with Calcium advantage as they tend to cancel each other out. So you have to dose reef builder one day, and Calcium advantage the next.

is it ok to pre-mix the ReefBuilder in the top up water?

I will be away for 2 weeks. can the top up water to maintain the dkh for 2 week?

hi whaomi, i seriously wouldn't recommend that

i base my comment only on my gut feeling that tells me it doesn't feel right to do so.

but hey, if you find sth online that tells you that u can, go ahead! :)
